METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface yet, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Then we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than necessary to safely clean commercial concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
